Ka-Band Satellite Propagation Experiment at the Guiana Space Centre

From January 2017 to December 2021, Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aérospatiales (ONERA) and Centre Spatiales (CNES) operated a beacon receiver able record the 20.1995 GHz signal of Amazonas-3 satellite at Guiana Space in Kourou, French Guiana. A rain gauge was also deployed on site collect rainfall rate measurements concurrently data. All years experiment, except 2019, had excellent data availability, hence giving four full (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021). First, climatic characteristics are shown. Second, propagation experiment processing methodology described. Third, results statistical analysis highlighted commented. Comparisons performed with prediction methods Recommendation ITU-R P.837-7 (rainfall rate), P.618-13 (rain attenuation), P.678-3 (variability phenomena), P.1623-1 (fade dynamics).
